Yui Ishikawa
Yui Ishikawa (石川 由 依 Ishikawa Yui ?, Osaka, Japan, May 30, 1989) is a Japanese voice actor and actress, affiliated with the Sunaoka Office. Before being a voice actress, she used to be a stage actress, as well as a voice actress in radio dramas since 2002. One of her best known roles is that of Mikasa Ackerman in Shingeki no Kyojin. She also voiced China Kousaka in Gundam Build Fighters, Sayuri Haruno in Bonjour Sweet Love Patisserie, Hakuno Kishinami in the anime Fate / Extra Last Encore, Hinaki Shinjo in Aikatsu! and 2B in Nier: Automata. At the eighth annual Seiyū Awards in 2014, Ishikawa won the award in the category of “Best Supporting Actress”.
Her debut in the world of animation took place in 2007, after auditioning on the recommendation of a man related to the world of animation, who saw her perform in the theater. That same year, she voiced the character of Dhianeila and Leisha Altoria Ol Yunos in the anime Heroic Age. Over the next six years, Ella Ishikawa voiced numerous supporting characters, such as the princess from the first episode of The Tower of Druaga: Sword of Uruk, while she continued her training as a stage actress.
It would not be until 2013 when she got the role of Mikasa Ackerman in the popular Shingeki no Kyojin, for which she would win the award for Best Supporting Actress at the 2014 Seiyū Awards. In an interview with Waoryu, she commented that the funniest part of Belonging to the cast of Attack on Titan was joking with his peers about how many episodes would last in the series, given the average number of character deaths per episode. She has also said that if she had to voice another character in the series other than Mikasa, this would be a titan.
She believes that theater acting and voice acting are similar, while the essence is the same. However, the technical part of her is different for her, since a seiyu has to match her voice with that of the characters that appear on screen. She explains for this reason that on several occasions she has to overact and modulate her voice so that the character is credible, which is a challenge.
